This weekend I didn't do much. On Saturday I had softball practice at 10:30 am - 12:00. Only five people showed up but it was a lot of fun and we worked on a lot of stuff. Later that day, I went Mother's Day shopping for my step mom and my mom. On Sunday, for Mother's Day my family went to the mall. My step mom got a Macbook Pro and my step sister and I got some clothes. We went out to eat at Applebeas and my brother would not stop screaming! If someone didn't give him some of their food, he'd scream! Then on the way home, my older brother (he's 15) drove us home. I honestly thought he'd crash into someone or something and we'd all have to go to the hospital, but we lived. After that we celebrated my dad's birthday since I won't be at his house for his birthday. We got him an Apple Watch. And, after that we didn't do much, we watched a movie, and just relaxed. That's pretty much all I did over the weekend. (:
Paige, Kenadi, Nora, and I made a google presentation on sponges. I hope you like it!
On Saturday I had a softball tournament, and the first game we lost by one, the second game we lost by either four or five, and the third game we won by eleven. After my games I watched my step sister's games and they were really good, but they lost their last game. And after the game the coach was fighting with the umpire. On Sunday it was my little sister's first birthday. Also, on Sunday it was really hot out. I didn't really do much this weekend but it was a lot of fun.
Today Mac Barnett came to my school. To prepare for his author visit, my class and a few other classes finger knitted (one of his books is called Extra Yarn). So we yarn bombed some things around the school. Yarn bombing is when you knit yarn and wrap or put it around something. The one that our school did is legal because we got permission. Mac Barnett is REALLY funny and a great author. One of my favorite picture books by him is Guess Again and my favorite series by him is the Brixton Brothers. He read his new book The Skunk to us and some of book 1 in the Brixton Brothers series. At the end he told us how a book is made. It was hilarious. It talked about, pirate ships, the Bermuda triangle, Canada, fighting with the editor, sea serpents, growing long beards, how his tears made the Pacific Ocean, the illustrator moving to Arizona and getting on a dog sled that took him to Texas and back to Arizona. Mac Barnett's author visit was probably my favorite author visit.
On Tuesday my grade went to the capitol. (Des Moines) It was so cool! Did you know if you took all of the gold leaf off the dome of the capitol and crumpled it up it would be the size of a baseball? My favorite part of going to the capitol was seeing the rooms that the House of Representatives and the Senate meets. And, when we went up to the top we had to climb 91 stairs up and down again. 182 stairs in all! And now my legs hurt really bad. Also, the library at the capitol is absolutely beautiful! They even had a dumbwaiter in the library. My second field trip, on Wednesday, was to the sculpture park and the Des Moines Art Center. My favorite sculpture was "The Spider" by Louise Bourgeois. My favorite painting was untitled by Anselm Kiefer. I liked it because it had real ballet slippers on it and it just look really cool.
I made an Animoto about Roy Lichtenstein, an artist that has drawn/painted many pop art pieces. Six of his pieces are at the Des Moines art center which is where the fifth grade is going on a field trip. I hope you enjoy my Animoto (:
This weekend I was really busy. On Saturday I went to Fun Night with one of my friends and after Fun Night I went to a late softball practice around 7:45-8:45. Then on Sunday I had to wake up at 6:00 for my softball tournament. We won our first game, tied the second game, and won the last game. That's pretty much all I did this weekend.
On Saturday I went to Reading Relays, and we lost the first round but at least we tried. After that, I went home and my step sister and I walked to the gas station by our house and got some things. Saturday evening I went t Olive Garden for dinner. On Sunday, in the morning my dad and step mom hid eggs and my siblings and I had to find them. A majority of the time I helped my little brother find his. Later on Sunday my family and I had my cousins over and we had Easter dinner. That's pretty much all I did this weekend.
I did an inquiry project on the Stamp Act. I made my presentation with Google Slides. I hope you like it. click here
I made a vocabulary video on Animoto. It has the word, definition, some synonyms, and two pictures.
